Do I need to set up my router for it to work?
All Zuni routers are shipped to operate as a router out of the box. For network internet access, hook up a CAT5 cable from your cable or DSL modem to the ZR301, and the router will broadcast a wireless network. However, this will be an open network, without security. We recommend you take a few moments to personalize your router. If you have little technical skill use our very simple Setup Wizard for a quick set up.
Getting started, how do I set up my router with my laptop or desktop computer?
To set up the router make sure that you have everything you need. First a setup computer with a CAT5 Ethernet port, (WISP and Extender Mode must be set up with a PC device with a CAT5 Ethernet port). Second the router and a power source for the router. Third the CAT5 cable to connect your setup computer to the router. (We recommend that you reboot your setup computer before you start the setup process.) To begin:
How do I login to the setup screen on my Zuni router?
Once you do the above steps you are ready to log into the Zuni router:
*If you have already changed the default password, use the password you assigned the router. Passwords are case sensitive. If you have already changed the password and do not remember it, don’t worry, as you can reset the router to our factory default settings and then sign in with the default password (admin). Resetting a router to factory defaults erases all changes you have made to the router’s configuration files. Hold in the reset button for 8 seconds to reset.
How do I change my router management password?
You can change the name and password in the setup wizard or you can log into your router and select Router Management from the left-hand menu, then select Admin Password. Enter your new password, then confirm the new password, and click on the Apply button to save your changes.
Do I need to secure my network?
A wireless network means the signal is sent out in a circle, which may include your neighbors. You may not know everyone within range who might log onto your network. We recommend that you set up security and a password for your router and thus any device on your network. You can do this in the setup wizard, or log into your router and follow these instructions:
Can I add a wireless network for a guest?
You can create a separate guest WiFi network. Simply log into your router and from the side menu, select Wireless Settings from the Set Up section. Click the box that says Multiple AP. Enter a new wireless network password into the Passphrase field under your security selection and click the Apply button to save your changes.
How do I set up an unsecured or open wireless network? (or) How do I remove the wireless network password so anyone can access my network?
Note: We recommend that you always use a password to protect your network. Removing the wireless network password will leave your network unsecured and vulnerable to outside users perhaps with malicious intent.
On the side menu, select Wireless Settings from the Set Up section. To leave your network unsecured, select Disable from ”Security Options” and click the Apply button to save your settings.
How do I upgrade my router's firmware?
From time to time we may improve the operating firmware. To upgrade your router’s firmware:
What happens if I reset my router to factory defaults?
This will simply restore the router to the factory settings. Any changes you made will be lost. To reset your router to factory defaults, use a skinny item such as a pen or paperclip to press and hold the Reset button for approximately 8 seconds until the Test light blinks. Release the button and wait for the router to reboot in about 30 seconds.
Now you can log back in as described above.
Can I turn off my ZUNI router, or do I need to leave it on all the time?
This is a decision for you to make. We have designed the Zuni router to use less energy than our competitors. If you want access to the internet and other devices on a moment’s notice then leave your router on. If you turn it off, the router will take about 40 seconds to reboot once you restore power. All of your settings will be saved.
Will multiple computers or devices slow down my network?
While a large number of devices can be connected wirelessly to the router, each user may experience a noticeable decrease in performance with each additional device added to the network. Depending on your specific tasks many devices should be able to use the same wireless connection without a noticeable decrease in network responsiveness. Your internet speed is dependent on what the phone or cable company is providing to you.
Having problems connecting with a DSL or Cable Modem?
Are you using a Cable or DSL Modem to connect to the ZuniConnect Router? Sometimes these modems lock onto the MAC address of the computer or the router that you have been using. If you are unable to establish a connection with our router after setup, try this simple solution.
Your modem may be recognizing the MAC address of your computer and will not release to a new device. With some modems you can solve this by powering down the modem, while leaving the ZR301 connected to it. After 30 seconds, restore power to the modem. Once it reboots the modem will now recognize the new device (our router). *With some cable modems, you must call the cable company to release the MAC address. *
If you do not want to change the MAC address your router recognizes, you can also clone the MAC address from your computer to the ZR301. This is done from the administrative page of the router setup. You can find the MAC address of your computer from the Network center.
How to Clone the MAC address from your computer to the ZR301
Here is where you enter the MAC address on the page. You have two options. You can either manually add the MAC address from your network settings or you can automatically clone the address from your computer.
